Key elements of the Backrooms concept:
The Rooms: The Backrooms are described as a series of endless, drab, and decaying rooms with stained yellow walls, buzzing fluorescent lights, and a musty carpet. The environment is often depicted as unsettlingly uniform, with no clear exits, windows, or doors leading outside.
The Escape: According to the lore, if someone "noclips" (a term borrowed from video games, meaning to pass through solid objects) out of the normal world—usually accidentally or by some strange backrooms means—they find themselves in the Backrooms. Once inside, escape is almost impossible, and the longer a person stays, the more disoriented and paranoid they become.
The Dangers: The Backrooms are not just a strange and surreal environment—they are also dangerous. Many versions of the lore mention that strange, hostile entities inhabit the space, such as creatures or unknown forces that pursue or threaten anyone who is lost in the labyrinth.
Levels: Over time, the concept has been expanded to include multiple "levels" of the Backrooms, each with its own characteristics and threats. Some levels are described as darker, more hostile, or more bizarre than others.
